INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
BREAKFAST 2010
Come and celebrate International Women's Day. This is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. Guest speaker:Sally Gearin: Barrister, Mother, Grandmother, founding member of Dawn House Refuge  Sally moved to the NT in 1986 to work as a senior lawyer. In 1990 she was the first female to join the NT Independent Bar. In 1992 Sally was awarded the NT Women's Fellowship for contributions made towards advancing the status of women in the Territory. She was a foundation member of the NT Women's Lawyers Association and President for five years. Sally's contributions in the Territory include practice in areas such as Anti-discrimination, De facto Relationships Disputes, Employment Law and Family Law. She also co-wrote the "Working Together To End Domestic Violence" report, resulting in a blueprint for Australian governments, and successfully represented a group of Chinese women and their families seeking refugee status after being forcibly sterilised for breaching the Chinese Government one child policy. Sally Gearin is a true example of a woman who has influenced women's social, economic and political status in the NT. For more information on Sally Gearin click here.
