Connecting Territory Women

Women's Network Northern Territory is the largest non-political organisation for WOMEN IN THE TOP END. Our aim is to support and promote you in areas of professional development, leadership and to connect women through networking.

Darwin evacuee Feb  1942- Mrs Mona Adams

Mona Adams was born in Darwin to an Aboriginal/Filipina mother and Chinese father, and attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School (now St. Mary’s School) in Cavenagh Street.

In January 1942, she, at age 14, and her family were evacuated from Darwin before it was bombed on the ship the “Montoro” and disembarked in Cairns. During their stay in Cairns, she met and married Charles Adams, and they had four children before returning to Darwin in 1949.

Mona comes from a family of 7 children. She is the mother of 13 children, and now has 35 grandchildren, 45 great-grand children and 3 great-great grandchildren. Hear Mona's story at this months networking event 16th Feb Shipwreck Bar Hotel Vibe
