DEPUTY Prime Minister Julia Gillard has vowed to protect stay-at-home mothers and ensure they benefit from the Government's new paid maternity leave system.
In response to a growing chorus calling for maternity leave to pay stay-at-home mothers the same as working mothers, Ms Gillard has given the first indication that the Government will not treat mothers who are out of the workforce as second-class citizens when it comes to financial support.
