Overhaul to target maternity services10-Sep-08 CANBERRA is preparing to overhaul Australia's maternity services, after finding doctors are charging pregnant women up to $9000 while midwives miss out on taxpayer subsidies. Expanding midwives' access to Medicare and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme to make births and post-natal care outside hospital more affordable is canvassed in a discussion paper to bereleased by Health Minister Nicola Roxon today. |
